Gay And Lesbian Children Free Essays
The current estimates of children who live with bisexual parents, either the gay or the lesbians in United States of America are in the tune of between six to ten million. The census conducted in the year 2000 treated these children as single parent children. At the moment, over twenty percent of the existing gay as well as lesbian relationships have a child in their homesteads. We will write a custom essay sample on Gay And Lesbian Children or any similar topic only for you Order Now In the American society, the families of gay as well as lesbians forms a fundamental element of the daily life. Introduction It has already been established that partners of the same sex ran their households almost in the entire county. It is also true that the homes led by the gay as well as the lesbians are in the tune of 600 000 in the entire nationâ⬠(Leff). It therefore implies that, the numbers of the children with transgender, bisexual, gay or lesbian parents are always on the increase. This category of the children may hail in families of mixed race, adoptive families or even families that are single parent. There is also likelihood that the children are biologically fathered or mothered by one of the parents. This is out of the fact that majority of the gay as well as the lesbians commit themselves in gay or lesbian relationships at the time of being parents. The other fact holds that the gay and the lesbians had children in their earlier life of heterosexual relationship but later got involved in their current sexual status (Leff). Literature review The documentary film that talks about what it is like to grow up with gay or lesbian parents that I have chosen for the purpose of this paper is entitled DADDY PAPA and from the context as presented, Johnny Symons, who is the film maker played the part of Papa, while William Rogers, who was his partner, played the part of Daddy. The two couples were committed for a period of about ten years although in an informally accepted union. They later got married officially in 2004 at a ceremony highly cheered by their sons (DADDY PAPA). There are some general ideas that are worth reflection. It is therefore upright in as far as the video is concerned to conclude that multiple and diverse ways exist in which a family can be composed. The existing families assume varied and diverse sizes as well as diverse configurations. There exists ordinary aspect among the variety of families in existence. The existing families have their kinds considered normal. However some kinds of a family may be numerous in relation to others. All of these families once in a while experience conflict of some kind which is part and parcel of the family. It is not practical for the families to be happy at all times. If teasing is a common occurrence in the family, hurt feelings as well as low self-esteem is most likely to be the repercussion to the offended member (s) of the family. It is also a possibility for the interruption of teasing to be done by members of the family who the become allies in as far as the other members are concerned. It is possible for families to experience a transformation just as it is with the people. Families of different kinds are potentially gifted to support one another for the purpose of their individual strengths more than any particular kind of family existing independently of any other (DADDY PAPA). According to Judith, ââ¬Å"The fact that the child is from a straight family with both mother and father does not warrant that the child will always be happy, safe and have a secure environment at home to allow the child a chance to grow into a productive individual who is properly adjusted. Parents of the same gender as well as parents of opposite gender have the same reaction in as far as stings are concerned, the scraps, the shorts as well as and the joys together with the heartaches affecting childhood in a similar manner as their childrenâ⬠(Judith, 12). According to Elias ââ¬Å"Parents who are open about their sexual orientation, who exhibit mentally healthy behavior and provide supportive communities for their kids, tend to have the most resilient youngstersâ⬠(Para 9). Further, paragraph. point number 2 states that ââ¬Å"Gay parents share child care and chores more evenly than heterosexual couples. Both men assume mommy/daddy roles. Theyââ¬â¢re coaches and cooks,â⬠(Para 6) Judith further asserts that ââ¬Å"The potential to become great or otherwise in as far as the parent is concerned has no any relationship to the sexual orientation of a person. Adults who are nurturing are reliable whether they are male or female; they have the potential, and are usually excellent parentsâ⬠(Judith, 33). She further summarizes the issue with a comment that ââ¬Å"The physical appearance of the family is not actually a reflection of the particular family typeâ⬠(Judith, 37). The most significant thing is the shared love among the members of that particular family which actually brings about the difference in existence among the members of the family. Taken from the perspective of Levy ââ¬Å"the health as well as the development of the child, there is no significant difference among the child of the heterosexual family and a child from a gay or a lesbian familyâ⬠(Para 1). The organizations with a strong devotion to the health as well as welfare of the children are in no compromise as far as the health is concerned. The adjustment of the child of couples of the same gender is no different from those ones of children from families of heterosexual nature (Lev). According to Elias, There exists no scientific evidence that sexual orientation determines the parenting effectiveness; any parent can provide supportive and healthy environments for their children. Elias says, ââ¬Å"The children will benefit if their parents are able to marryâ⬠(paragraph 1). The only shortcomings facing the children of same-sex marriage is the failure of the efforts by the schools to meet their needs in as far as being more inclusive. This situation is compounded by the teasing and the mockery that they face from children of normal families (Elias). According to Lev ââ¬Å"Much of the research describes four general outcomes for cross-gendered children. One, they grow up to be normatively gendered, heterosexual people. Two, they grow up to be feminine men or masculine women. Three, they grow up to be lesbian or gayâ⬠(Para 6). Four, they grow up to be transsexual or transgender. The most common outcome seems to be that gender-variant boys grow up to be gay. Treatmentââ¬âin the form of behavioral modification programs geared at eliminating cross-gender behaviorââ¬âare the standard recommendationâ⬠(Para 6). Chapter 9 of the same website suggests that ââ¬Å"Something is very wrong here, but Iââ¬â¢m not sure it is Kyle who has the problem. In order to decide if something is ââ¬Ëwrongââ¬â¢ with Kyle, we need to define what we mean by wrong. Do we think it is wrong to be a sensitive heterosexual man? Do we think it is wrong to be a gay man? I suspect most of us will respond to those questions with a resounding No! â⬠(Chapter 9). But the minority group has had to encounter great challenges due to discrimination. According to the article Liberation Was For Others ââ¬Å"Latest research estimates that approximately 10,000 ââ¬â 15,000 men were sent to concentration camps solely for being homosexual the same article stresses that Some lesbians, as well as feminists, were considered A-Socialsâ⬠by the Nazis and were sent to the camps in limited numbers. Many served their time in camp brothels servicing the Nazis as well as some camp inmatesâ⬠(Chapter 3). Conclusion The fact of the matter is that shapes as well as the sizes of various families are also diverse. All types of parents are gifted to raise their children, whether they are married, unmarried, grandparents of the children, single parents, widowed, members of an extended family and foster parents among many others. There are high chances of the possibility that children from gay or lesbian parent enjoy a happier life in comparison to a child from a normal family. The family is a care giver of primary importance and a central focus for the strength as well support in as far as the children are concerned. The security given to a child out of a setting of a stable family is the necessary ingredient responsible for the healthy future of the child. The gay as well as the lesbians have been involved in child rearing from the past, a trend that will continue into the future. How to cite Gay And Lesbian Children, Papers

Masters Hardware Failure Woolworths does Some Home Improvement
Question: Write about theMasters Hardware Failurefor Woolworths does Some Home Improvement. Answer: Introduction Strategic alliances have been one of the many strategies that multinationals have used to enter into new international markets. The case: Masters Hardware failure: Woolworths does some home improvement provided a clear picture of a poorly done strategic alliance. This paper critically analyses different aspects of strategic alliances and how it was poorly done in this case. For instance, the paper discusses what attracted Woolworths to the Australian home improvement industry, the reasons why Woolworths used strategic alliance to enter the Australian market, strategic factors that contributed to the companys poor performance as well as its withdrawal strategy. Factors that Made the Industry Attractive to Woolworth Market attractiveness is defined as a measure of a markets potential value; market attractiveness defines the interesting possibilities that an investor will gain profits by investing in a given market or industry (Armstrong, et al., 2012). The measure of profit possibilities that lie within the structure of a particular market or industry is referred to as market attractiveness of that market or industry. Given the case of Woolworth, there are various factors that were compelling for firm to venture into the Australian home improvement industry, including: The size of the Australian Home improvement market: the Australias home investment market was big approximated to be $40 billion a year worth. Accordingly, the retailing segments in the Australian home improvement industry were exhibiting strong growth through posting high profits in the recent years. Investment potential: given the fact that Burnings was the only major player in the market, Woolworth saw an opportunity for becoming the second major player in the Australian home improvement industry. Economic factors: the home improvement market was booming economically with regard to the strong profit margins together with sales growth that Burnings was achieving. The economy of Australia was stable and ripe for any investor to venture into the home improvement industry. Competitive factors: the market was mainly dominated by one major player; Wesfarmers Burnings. Woolworth so an opportunity to become another major player in the market to share the customer base with Burnings as well as profits. In essence, there was room for another major second player which would perform even better. Environmental factors: the Australian real estate was booming particularly in Melbourne and Sydney; the property prices were rising and major investors were attracted to invest so as to dominate the market. Similarly, renovations were order of the day; for this reason, Woolworth was assured of social acceptance to offer their products which would also be accepted by the market. Strategic Alliance as a Mode of Entry Strategic Alliances are a form of international market entry strategy that occurs when two or more business organisations collaborate to achieve a similar or common objective. Strategic alliances are a phrase or term used to describe different relationship between firms that market internationally. Strategic alliances can take a myriad of forms, including shared manufacturing, research and development arrangements, distribution alliances, and marketing agreements. In essence, strategic alliances are non-equity based contracts; companies remain separate and independent. Strategic alliances are mainly formed to provide benefits to all parties in the alliance (Rothaermel, 2015). Woolworth used strategic alliances as a mode of entry into the Australian home improvement market to learn the necessary skills and capabilities from Masters. Similarly, Woolworth wanted to enhance its productive capacity, gain a distribution system in order to extend its supply chain. Furthermore, the conglomerate would gain good or service complement from Masters which would then create a synergy. In the same line of discussion, Woolworth used Strategic Alliances to reduce risks and costs by distributing them across other members of the alliance. For instance, through strategic alliances Woolworth would gain greater economies of scale given the fact that production volumes would increase which would on the other hand, reduce the cost per unity produced (Papadopoulos Heslop, 2014). Accordingly, strategic alliances would help the company to access the Australian market which would otherwise be hard and costly to access. Furthermore, it reduced the companys exposure to several entry obstacles, including stiff competition, hostility from the government regulations together with additional complexities. Additionally, risks of opportunity costs as well as direct financial losses because to improper situating of the markets are overcome through strategic alliances (Wild, et al., 2014). Ansoffs Matrix Ansoffs Matrix provides an exhaustive description suggesting that as a business attempts to grow; its growth will depend on whether it markets existing products or new products in an existing or a new market. The Ansoffs matrix is a significant marketing tool the aids business companies in determining their products as well as strategy for market growth. (Steinhilber, 2013) Market Penetration: here a company increases its market share within the existing market segment. For instance, the company accomplishes this by selling more services/products to existing customers or through finding new customers within the existing markets (Hill, et al., 2014). Product development: under this strategy, a company creates new products for existing markets. It involves thinking about the manner in which new products will satisfy the needs of the customer while outperforming the products of the competitors (Gilligan Hird, 2012). Market development: with regard to this strategy, the company finds new markets for its existing products. For instance, market research coupled with further segmentation of the markets helps the company identifying new customer groups (Johnson, et al., 2013). Diversification: here, the company moves new products into new markets concurrently. It is regarded as the riskiest strategy; the more the company moves away from what it has been doing in the past, the more the uncertainties created (Williams, 2016). Nonetheless, in the event that the existing activities are threatened, diversification is recommended to spread the risk. Given the above understanding, Woolworth falls in the product development quadrant where the company was venturing into the hardware products for the existing Australias home improvement industry. Factors that Contribute to Poor Performance Strategic alliances are potentially a good strategy for international marketing; however, if not correctly and strategically implemented, it can result into a wide range of challenges that may cause the company not only to underperform, but also fail to gain competitive advantage. The case of Woolworths the following strategic challenges led to its ventures demise: Choosing the right partner is a critical strategic choice in making strategic alliances (Cartwright Cooper, 2012). Woolworths by choosing Masters as its alliance partner, they did not make an effective strategic move; Bunnings was the best choice as they had fool knowledge of the market dynamics, and hence could have provided Woolworths the best strategic alliance option. Further, building a mutually beneficial alliance is another enormous challenge. Humans are not always trustworthy; many are motivated by self-interests and thus they may not be interested in striking business relationships that would benefit others (Haeussler, Patzelt Zahra, 2012). For instance, Woolworths CEO Grant OBrien did oversee the implementation of the strategic alliance between Woolworths and Masters; the biggest mistake that resulted into the loss of billions of dollars. Knowing when to reassess the alliance is another significant challenge that still haunts the company up to the present, Woolworths could have reassessed their strategic alliance with Master s at the beginning of their relationship. Masters misinformed Woolworths because the boom in the Australian market was only attractive in the yester years and the market was no longer favorable for huge investments. Due to not reassessing their strategic alliances, Woolworths ended losing billions of dollars. Withdrawal Strategies Multinationals optimize their international market portfolio through extensions, expansions, and retractions. This was the core objective of Woolworths partnering with Masters; however, the initial objectives of achieving profitability together with increased customer base were not realized. Given this understanding, Woolworths decided to dissolve its strategic alliance with Masters as its practical withdrawal strategy. For instance, David Errington called on Woolworths to abandon the partnership with Masters because its continued association with the later caused the companys share price to plunge from above $30 to below $22.49. Conclusion The above discussion holistically brings to light different aspects of strategic alliances as a mode of international market entry. Using the case: Masters Hardware failure: Woolworths does some home improvement this paper has critically discussed how a poorly formed strategically alliance can be detrimental. For instance, Woolworths lost billions of money due its strategic alliance with Masters. References Armstrong, G., Kotler, P., Harker, M., Brennan, R. (2012). Marketing: an introduction. Personal Statement from an Exchange Student free essay sample
With confused eyes and an empty stomach, I was to tell the lady in the cafeteria that I wanted a taco. It was a challenge for a student who just came to America three days ago, knowing limited English and nothing about American foodincluding ââ¬Å"tacoâ⬠. I told her I wanted the thing with meat and cheese, and some vegetables on top. She quickly gave me a cheeseburger and was ready to serve the next one. ââ¬Å"SorryI donââ¬â¢t want this oneâ⬠I blurted out before she moved her eyes away from me. She put her scoop down and removed the burger. â⬠What do you want?â⬠My face blushed like a guilty child, a quick glance of the waiting line made me sweat. I wished the school could assign the same food to everyone like schools in China so I would not have to suffer the embarrassment everyday. To try again, I held my hands like a cone, put it next to my mouth and pretended I was chewing on it. We will write a custom essay sample on Personal Statement from an Exchange Student or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page An â⬠ah haâ⬠smile suddenly brightened her face. ââ¬Å"I got you!â⬠She handed me a burrito. This was my first lunch at school, with all the frustration and an unwanted burrito. Living in the United States was completely new for me. The first obstacle in front of me was how to catch up with the curriculum. AP Chemistry, for example, made me really frustrated. I was totally lost in the different teaching style and the technical terms. After many tries, I found that an effective way to understand the curriculum was to interact with the class as much as possible. Sometimes I do make mistakes while speaking in front of class, but the key point is not to be afraid to express thoughts. Over time, I not only survived, but excelled. I ended up with all Aââ¬â¢s on my grade report. Besides the curriculum, I also felt lost in the American studentsââ¬â¢ social life when I first came here. I had a hard time understanding my classmatesââ¬â¢ conversations because they use a lot of slang, which I knew nothing about it. It took me a while to figure out what they were saying when I heard people sayââ¬Å"Hey wazzup!â⬠to me. So I tried to join as many extra-curricular activities as possible in order to learn how Americans socialize with each other. At the same time, I also shared Chinese culture with them, for example, participating in Girl Scouts and singing Beijing opera at the World Thinking Day in our town. Sharing and making friends brought me great happiness and a sense of self-actualization; I would like to carry on my passion to make my campus more diversified. Many people asked me why I chose to study in America. I told them because I want my life to be different and I have no fear to challenge. My determination has been developed from childhood when I traveled a lot to many countries in Europe, Southeast Asia with my parents. When most of my peers in China limit themselves to academics and let their parents make most decisions for them, I have already come across the ocean on my own and made great headway towards my future. America gives me greater expectations by showing me what I can really do. Before coming to America, I could never imagine myself writing a 10 page scientific paper in English; I would not believe my art work could be displayed and sold; and I would not even dream of standing on the stage for National Honor Society ceremonies to get the certificates of excellence. America makes these opportunities available to me! I think I have learned something important here about life. It is during the times you are far outside you r element that you experience yourself the most.
